Write 29f1610 on a Willem GQ-4X

I'm having trouble getting my Willem GQ-4x to write a PSOP44 29F1610 chip. The software calls for a ADP-019 adapter. I have version 4.1 of the adapter. I have successfully programmed 29L3211 which is identical in pinout to 29F1610 except for PIN 44.
Pin 44 on 29F1610 is WP (write protect)
Pin 44 on 29L3211 is A20
I have the adapter setup for programming 29L3211 and used a 10k resistor to tie from pin 44 to +5. I can get an ID, tries to write but just stalls the software. Anyone successfully write these chips before?
